Another project vehicle is joining TuneView: a 2011 Cadillac CTS Coupe, currently equipped with a 3.6-liter V6, an automatic transmission, and rear-wheel drive.

This one is getting an engine swap to cover Generation 4 research, while the Sierra remains our Generation 5 research vehicle. Right now, we're sourcing engines for the Cadillac build. That makes this the first entry in the Cadillac's story, while the search is still underway and the next chapter is taking shape.

Meet the Cadillac

The starting point is a two-door CTS with the 3.6-liter V6 and an automatic. The 416 Whipple Sierra project continues as TuneView's Generation 5 research vehicle. The Cadillac adds a dedicated Generation 4 direction to the project fleet, with a build we can share from the beginning.

Here is where the project stands today:

  • Vehicle: 2011 Cadillac CTS Coupe.
  • Current engine: 3.6-liter V6.
  • Current transmission: Automatic.
  • Drivetrain: Rear-wheel drive.
  • Build direction: Engine swap for Generation 4 research.
  • Current stage: Sourcing an engine.

Those are the starting specifications. The swap's final combination will get its own update as the parts come together.

Two project vehicles, two research paths

The Sierra and the Cadillac will each have a continuing role at TuneView. The Sierra carries on with Generation 5 research. The CTS Coupe swap will cover Generation 4, adding another engine generation to the work we can document through our own project vehicles.

The Cadillac is still at the engine-sourcing stage. Its Generation 4 research role is the direction for the build; the specific engine and final combination are still to come.

The engine search comes first

An engine swap story starts well before the replacement engine goes into the car. For this Cadillac, it starts with finding the engine that will shape the rest of the project.

We're currently looking at motors for the swap. There isn't an engine choice to announce yet, so this introduction is the place to mark the beginning. Once that choice is made, we can get into the actual combination and the work ahead.

Follow the CTS Coupe build

We'll share the Cadillac's progress here on TuneView as the project moves forward, starting with the engine search and the car itself. It's another project to follow alongside the Sierra, with its own decisions, parts, and story to tell.

Here is a first look at the Cadillac. The teaser photo above introduces the car at the start of the project. More photos are coming soon as the engine search continues.

For now, we've got the car and a direction. Time to find its next engine.
